Arts Week

We have had a wonderful Arts Week here in school and each day we had different visitors and activities. I would like to thank all the staff, but especially, Ms Hegarty, for the work, organisation and planning that has ensured that every child had a great learning experience this week. Thank you for all the fun!

Redmond O’ Toole

Yesterday we had a very exciting visit from Redmond O’ Toole.  Redmond is a professional guitarist and has played with the Chieftains. He has played in some of the most famous concert halls all over the world. He plays the classical guitar so you might hear him playing some Bach and classical Spanish pieces. He is a teacher with the Royal Irish Academy of Music. His student Marina Kilmurray came with him too and it was cool because she is from Balbriggan! Redmond brought an 8 string guitar and played some wonderful pieces for us!

Leah said “It was fantastic I had never seen a guitar like that before”

Max said “His fingers moved so quick when he was playing”

Killian said “He was good at playing the music”

Adrian said “It was amazing”

Many thanks to Redmond for visiting and to Deborah Kelleher of the Royal Irish Academy of Music for helping to organise this visit!

Spooky Stories

This week’s story has to contain these words …as the door slammed I knew…You can read all of our stories on our class blog.

One Halloween I was out trick or treating with my friends. I was dressed up as a ghost, Haylie was dressed up as a ‘cereal’ killer and my other friend Dylan was dressed up as a zombie. We where having lots of fun calling from house to house, until we took a short cut down the dark alley way to the spooky house. We went into the garden and walked up to the door. The door was left slightly open so we pushed the door gently and called out ‘trick or treat’. There was no answer, so we quietly crept inside to have a look around. As the door slammed I knew we were in danger. Next we heard a loud laugh, we turned around and standing there were our parents, they had tricked us!

When the door slammed I knew it wasn’t just my imagination! I’d felt something creepy around my bedroom for some time now. Nicol had come for a play-date, we were colouring pictures when suddenly my crayon started moving on its own on the page. Eeek! we both froze and coldness came upon us.
Omg what was that, we looked at each other with scared faces then ran downstairs to tell my Mam. Mam said ‘don’t be silly girls, ghosts are not real’. We had dinner feeling reassured. Then we went back upstairs to find the whole room was covered in Halloween pictures!! Spoooky !!

GAA Blitz

All four 3rd classes have been partaking in GAA lessons with Larissa each week this term. Today, some children had the opportunity to represent their school in a local GAA blitz!

Well done to all who took part!  St. Molaga’s 3rd class students played brilliantly against 3rd class children from local schools.

It was great to see such good sportsmanship from all! Maith sibh!

If any parents are interested in sending their children for additional GAA coaching, O’Dwyers GAA club are always looking for new members!

Here are some pictures of our day!

Arts Week – Art Exhibition

All the classes in St. Molaga’s SNS worked extremely hard on making artwork based on different artists. Our work was displayed altogether in our very own art “museum” – our school hall! Today, we had the chance to look at and discuss some of the brilliant artwork created by all the classes from 3rd to 6th.

Ms Geraghty’s class studied the abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky – a Russian abstract artist from the 20th century. We hope everyone enjoyed the day and liked our abstract art!

We really enjoyed looking at everyone’s artwork. St. Molaga’s has a lot of very talented artists!!
