Perspective Art

Perspective- From landscapes to the Mona Lisa.

In this weeks art lesson we identified foreground, middle ground and background in a variety of images, including famous paintings such as The Mona Lisa.

Our lesson involved drawing on a flat surface but giving a sense of depth, and layer, showing 3D in our pieces of art work.

This linked nicely  to Maths this week, as we were exploring, identifying and constructing 3D shapes

Invasion and Abduction

Invasion by Malinka

I can’t believe what just happened, I feel so lucky to be alive. Me and my sister were saved but our mother died from a fire. Crying, we ran out of the collapsing house, leaving the dead body behind. As the street lights flashed, we raced down the empty night street. We turned right and scrambled up the wall, holding tight to our amulet. We could scarcely see the invaders and hear a faint sound of screaming and darting bullets. My sister hugged me for the first time and i heard her saying her prayers for the second time…or last?

Last night I couldn’t sleep so I glanced out the window and gazed upon a beaming bright light. I thought it was a bit strange so I considered that I could have been dreaming. The next night I spotted a peculiar looking shape in the sky. I picked up my soft I.R.F.U. slippers and ran out to see in my amazement a flying saucer hovering right above my head. The next thing I knew I was being studied by aliens,. I kept wishing to be in my warm cosy bed or thinking they couldn’t bring me to another planet. Was I wrong?

Mapping our route from our home to St. Molaga’s School

IMG_1912[1]This week in Geography we learned how to give clear, precise directions when going places in our local environment.

Firstly, we explored and discussed a map of Balbriggan town and identified landmarks such as Millfield shopping centre, Thatched Cottage, Carnegie Library, Courthouse.

We then used Google maps to map our route from our house to the school. Some of the children had an opportunity to direct us from their house to the school using clear, precise directions. While doing this, we listed landmarks we pasted on the way to school.

We found out how far and how close in some cases, the children live from the school.

Here are some of the maps we drew. The starting point was their home and the destination was St. Molagas…

Constructing 3D shapes

Over the last week Ms. Meehan’s 3rd class have been working very hard in identifying, discussing and exploring 3D shapes in our environment.

Today (Monday 26th January) we constructed 3D shapes using match sticks and play dough.

Mystery Skype Call

We held another mystery Skype call yesterday.DSC_0008[1] DSC_0009[1] This time the school was in Georgia, USA. Their school is called Eastbrook Middle School, the link to their school is here https://sites.google.com/site/eastbrookmustangs/

This time they guessed where we were located, before we guessed where they were.

We had a lot of fun chatting to them about school, music, hobbies, sport, homework and TV.

We sang Man of the Bees for them.

Winter Poems

The wind is howling strong and loud

The leaves are falling to the ground

The snow flakes fall without a sound.

The winter nights are long and dark

All the birds sleep even the lark

It’s winter time

The snow is out

Make a giant snow cone with snow from your yard

Jack Frost will freeze the flakes

The Decision by Ava B

Maddie enjoyed dancing and gymnastics. Her Mum told her that she had to choose between the two as money was very tight.

Maddie didn’t know what to do, she loved them both, her pal Eimear was in dancing and her friend Amy was in gymnastics. That night she was lying in bed worrying over making the right decision when suddenly she saw a light, the light was so bright it hurt her eyes.  She knew what she needed to do.

She was going to choose Gymnastics because that was where her heart was and you always have to follow your heart.

MYSTERY SKYPE CALL by Rachel

We had other Mystery Skype call yesterday.

This time the school was in Montreal, Canada.  The school was called Murielle Dumont.   The teacher was Ms Usha Singh. This is a link to their school.

We used the laptops (using Google Earth and Google Maps) and our atlases to try and find out where they were.

We started by trying to find out which continent they were on, and then we had to find the province they are in. We were only allowed to ask yes/no questions, so it takes time to find the correct answers.

We are calling it a draw because they guessed Dublin before we guessed  Quebec.  Then we guessed Montreal but they had to go to their next class,  so they never got to guess Balbriggan.

We learned all about their school.  They told us that they start school at 8.00 am and they finish school at 3.00 pm.  They also told us that their lunch last 1 hour 20 minutes and they have 4 breaks.

Our next Mystery Skype call will be on the 22nd January.

Our Christmas Holidays

My  Christmas     Holidays

Lucy

I  went  to my  friend’s house . We  made   some  Christmas  cookies. We  dressed  up  as  Mrs.  Claus. After  we  went   ice  skating  in   Swords. Later   on we went to Mc  Donald’s  &  had   lots   of  fun!

 

Mirabela 

I went   for a sleep over   in  my friends. We   stayed  up  all night  watching  movies. I got a mini  tablet from  Santa.

Travis

For xmas i got a bike and fish.

I went to the park for a while there was a lot of ice.

MY FRIENDS CAME OVER AND WE PLAYED GAMES

My grandpa and grandma came over from England. They took us to the cinema for Eden ‘s birthday but , Noah didn’t want to come.

On Christmas day  I  woke up at  7o’clock. I got a guitar for  Christmas .I went to my cousins house on St. Stephens day.

My mums friends came for Christmas dinner . Then my friend had a sleepover in my house. My friend and I opened up the presents. I got a doll a Top Model and a skeleton. My friend got a doll a Top Model and a zelf.

I woke up at 5clock in the morning. There were a lot of toys and games. I got skylanders trap and lego batman3. I had a lot of  fun. I went to my nannies. Then I was playing with my new toys.

On Christmas eve in the evening we ate dinner. After when we went to the living room there were lots of presents. On Christmas day I woke up at 6:30 and woke up my sister and we went to the living room. There were lots of presents. The following weekend we went to Britain to see the Titanic museum. The museum was very big. The next day we went ice skating. The next day my friend Oliwia came for a sleepover. On Sunday I went to my Auntie’s house.

On Christmas day I got monopoly empire and a knitting set . I went to visit my nanny and she gave me a Smyths card.                                                                                                                                                                                                 My auntie gave me a blow-up bed . My  cousin got a laptop and an I phone . I got a zelf of Santa . I went to Santa  island.

On the 20th it was my birthday. Santa gave me runners and games. On the 25th we had turkey for dinner. On the 31st we celebrated new year’s eve. I went to Funderland and ice skating .

 

Paul

First I got up at 6 in the morning. Then I got up my Mam and Dad . Then I played for an hour. Next I got dressed and went to my grandad’s. Finally I got my Christmas dinner, I had Chicken.

 

Hayley

On Christmas day I  woke up at 1:00am. I woke everybody up with two big pots I clanged them together and it was loud everybody woke up. I got a tablet . It was on kids mode I hated it but when my mam got it off kids mode, I loved it . I got a lot of  Monster High ! My little brother got a new bike he loves it. Every day he rides it all around the house it is adorable. My other brother got lots of Lego.

On Christmas eve we got Mc Donalds for dinner.  On  Christmas day I got a fashion wheel and lots more. After my presents from Santa I went to my granny and grandads house for a sleepover. My cousins were there too. Then the next day we went to my nanna’s house .

On Christmas morning I woke up at 5am. When I saw my toys I almost fainted. On the day after Christmas , I went to my Nanas for dinner. The next day I just relaxed and played my x-box.

On Christmas I woke up and got out of bed.  I went down stairs with my sister. I saw my I phone 4, my heelys, my just dance 4, my golden coin maker and more. After that I went to my nanny’s house and had dinner. I had 2 sleepovers in my nanny’s house. Then I went to my cousins house and had a sleepover. Then she slept in my house then I slept in her house again!

 

Dara

I got a phone and football boots and a tracksuit. The next day i went to Swords and had dinner. Then we went home and played our games and watched a movie.

Callum

On Christmas day I got up at 6:30am I think. I got a bike, PS4 and a new tablet. I gave my old tablet to my sister. I went to my nanny’s house for dinner. I got a minecraft FIFA14 Grand Theft Auto 5 and Destiny for the PS4. I got a flappy bird book.

Nathaniel

I woke up on Christmas morning at 8:00am. I checked downstairs. The big couch was amazing with toys. I woke up Mam and Dad and ran downstairs again. I attacked the big couch and had the best Christmas ever.

 

Jake

Presents: C.O.D. Ghosts/AW, Stunt scooter. I went down the stairs at 4:00am. I went to my Nan’s house. I saw a movie called into the storm. I love Christmas.

Sophie

I woke up on Christmas morning at 6:00am. I got a desk and a spinning chair. I also got a Dublin jacket. Then I went to my Nanny and Grandad’s house and my Auntie’s house. I also went to my Nannie’s grave. Then I went ice skating. After that I went home for dinner.

 

Katie

I woke up on Christmas day at 7.30 and I woke up my brother and sisters. We went downstairs and saw all our presents. Then we watched my sister Chloe doing the Christmas swim at the beach. Then I went to my Nanny and Grandad’s and they bought a phone for me. Then I went to my other  Nanny and Grandad’s and they bought me a bike. Then I went home and played with my toys.

 

Glen

On Christmas day my brother woke me up by slapping me across the face. I went to the cinema two times. I went to have a sleepover. The next day I went to the Gaeity panto to see Peter Pan.

 

Erin

On my Christmas holidays I went to the cinema, the Butler’s chocolate factory and to a hotel. On Christmas day I woke up my brother and sister and Dad and Mum. We opened all the presents in a flash. After we got breakfast and got our clothes we went to a hotel. It was a great Christmas.

 

Josh

On Christmas day I got, a board game called bounce off, a Spurs calendar and a Spurs annual, a ball signed by Pele that is made out of tyres, a wrestling ring also with a stretcher bin chair and an announce table with a wrestling figure, two games for my xbox and an Ireland away kit.

My Mam and Dad got me runners and Olly Murs album. My nanny got me 2k15 for my xbox and my great Aunt got me warrior boots. The day before Christmas eve I went to a disco.  My two American cousins came to my house. My Mam and Dad play bounce off all the time. I went to my Grandad’s Joes grave, Nanny Carmel’s grave and Tessie’s grave.
