We worked with chocolate because we could easily have it as a solid (block) a liquid (melted) and a gas ( we could smell the vapor/gas)

Our 100 Word Challenge Partners in New Zealand
We have been paired with Ms Cass Parker’s class in New Zealand. Their school is called Broadgreen Intermediate School. They are in a town called Nelson. Nelson is on the South Island of New Zealand.
You can read their 100 word challenge stories here http://100wordroom11.blogspot.co.nz. They are aged between 11 and 13 years old, so they are a bit older than us, but we enjoy reading their stories.
Their teacher Ms Parker is originally from Ireland, but has been living in New Zealand for 13 years.
You can read their class blog here http://100wordroom11.blogspot.co.nz

We are very proud of our writing!
Every week we have been working really hard on our writing. We take part in the 100 word challenge. This gives us a different writing prompt each week. It also gives us a worldwide audience for our writing.
We get lots of comments from schools all over the world, including Ireland, USA, Canada and New Zealand.
Every week for the last four weeks we have won a Special Showcase. That means, that out of the thousands of entries for the 100 word challenge, we have had one of our stories nominated and awarded.
We would love if you took a look at our work and maybe even leave a comment. You need to go to https://100wc.net/ and then click on the continue reading section. This will bring you to all the entries for the week. If you go to numbers 4246 – 4252 and numbers 4225 – 4233 ,you will see most of our entries for this week. (Also entries 4238, 4236, 4241).
Busy Bees learn all about bees!
We learned all about bees today. Lisa (a parent of one of our students) came in to teach us about keeping bees. Lisa has been learning about it herself, and showed us all her bee-keeping equipment.
We learned lots about bees, and we think they are very clever animals. We learned about the very important queen bee and the worker bees, all of whom are female! We learned too that the drone bees (the males) are kicked out of the hive in Autumn.
Thank you so much for coming in to talk to us Lisa.

Halloween by Molly (for 100 word challenge)
It was Halloween and as we were getting ready my mam said that it was likely to rain. My friend was dressed up as a ballet dancer. Frankenstien is who I had chosen to dress up as. I was wearing a big bulky jacket. It was huge on me and I was practically swimming in it. My mam had painted my friends face with glitter and blusher and then painted me with a lovely shade of green on my face and hands. Outside the house we had a smoke machine which was run on gas. It was so cool and very effective.
St Patrick’s Day Parade by Jack for 100 word challenge
I love going to watch the parade. Everybody wears something green and I always get my face painted. There are always dancers, bands and groups of people from GAA clubs, swimming, soccer, judo, boxing clubs marching in the parade. One year there was a clown blowing up balloons with helium gas. My brother got one of the balloons and sucked the gas out of it. It made his voice all squeaky and we could not stop laughing as he sounded like a chipmunk. I will more than likely be at the Saint Patricks Day Parade again this year for sure.
Best Show Ever by Josh for 100 word challenge
Last Christmas we went to see a panto, I really didn’t want to go because I thought it would be booorrring. It turned out to be the best thing I’ve ever seen. There were so many mistakes it was gas. There was a dancer who was too close to the edge of the stage and she went flying off landing in the front row on top of someone. There was a man dressed up as a big green apple his costume was swimming on him and he fell flat on his face. Everyone in the theatre was falling around the place laughing. I think its likely this show won’t be back on next year, but I hope it is.

Another Special Showcase
Very well done to Amy, she has been awarded a Special Showcase for her story. Great writing! This is her story.

It was three in the morning when she heard a growl coming from outside. Suzy picked up a decorative sword for protection and decided to investigate. When the door opened there it was……. A Draco Wolf. She screamed and dropped the sword in terror.
But there was nothing to be afraid off. The wolf slowly approached her with his head down and whimpered. She started to pet him. She fed him some chicken and brought him in out of the cold and made him a warm bed in front of the fire.
After that they became best friends and she named him Alfie!
Penpal letters
Our letters arrived today from our penpals in South Carolina, in the USA. They are a 3rd grade class and they are aged 8 and 9 like us.
We wrote to them before Christmas, and their teacher Ms. Simmons explained why it took them so long to write back. They have been very busy doing testing and she also explained that they had missed 11 days of school because of snow.
Some the children described the snow as ‘snow ice’ and described how if you looked up at the snow falling, it would hurt your face.
The children told us all about their families, their pets, their school and their hobbies.
We loved reading the letters and can’t wait to write back to them.

The Rugby Blitz
The Rugby Blitz happened on 10/2/2016. Ms.Leonard’s and Ms.Gray’s Fifth Classes competed against each other. The classes utilized their amazing rugby skills that they acquired from recent rugby activity organized by our wonderful rugby trainers.
The teamwork of both teams was outstanding in all of the matches. The teams were very competitive and sportsmanlike. The matches were exciting, especially when the better players made daring maneuvers for their teams.
Some players had extraordinary skills compared to others, but everybody made good efforts in their teams. During the matches some accidents happened but no-one was hurt thankfully.
However, all of the players had some great fun while playing.
