1916 – Presentation by Ms Coleman

Ms Coleman told us about her Grand Uncle who fought in 1916. His name was Tomás and he fought alongside Countess Markievicz in St. Stephen’s Green.  He survived the Easter Rising and was sent to prison in Frangoch in Wales, along with lots of other rebels after the Rising.

After the rising he studied to become a priest and he served for many years in England.

Ms Coleman showed us newspapers and magazines from 100 years ago. One of them carried a report about her Great Uncle. He and some of his fellow rebels commandeered a car for use as a barricade during the fighting.

We really enjoyed the presentation and looking at the artefacts.
