Kid’s Marathon

Over the past few weeks, all of the sixth classes have worked extremely hard to prepare for the Dublin Kid’s Marathon for the first time. We have worked hard since September, by running increasing numbers of laps around our local all weather pitch. We persevered for eight weeks to prepare for the event.
A group of people gathered at the National Sports Campus to run at the original event. Their aim was to run the last mile of the Dublin Kid’s Marathon.
While some people attended, some were unable to attend and therefore Ms Walsh kindly organised our own event in our school. Ms McGinley’s, Mr Brown’s, Ms Gray’s, Ms McMahon’s and Ms Reilly’s c;asses all ran, regardless of their ability. Everybody that ran got a medal! It was a fantastic event.
A BIG THANKS to Ms Walsh and all the other teachers that were involved in the 8 weeks of training.

North County Outreach

This is our St. Molaga’s sweet collection for North County Outreach. It was collected on the 7th and the 8th November. In Geography we learned about homelessness and how it has increased through out the years.
Ms Sullivan’s fifth class decided to contact North County Outreach to see if we could donate some of our Halloween candy. The next day we all made posters to ask the pupils of St. Molaga’s if they could donate at least one thing from their Halloween bag. Pupils from Ms Sullivan’s 5th class went around the school with notes and posters sharing our idea. In the next few days we collected five big boxes of sweets and treats. On Tuesday, 8th our teach
er drove the collection over to North County Outreach. They were thankful for our donations and we were happy to help with the organisation.

Acceptable Use Policy
The school’s acceptable use policy (A.U.P.) has been updated and can be seen in the School Policies page of the school website.
Craig Williams
The school has experienced the sudden death of Craig Williams, a pupil in sixth class due to an accident while on holiday. We are deeply saddened by the death of Craig. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. Craig was a popular member of our school, of Ms McMahon’s Sixth class and a good friend. He enjoyed sports and loved to play football and basketball with his class at lunch. Craig was also a talented member of our school choir. He had a great sense of fun and always had a great big smile on his face. Craig will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all pupils and staff in St. Molaga’s.

College Awareness Week
College Awareness Week 2015
On Friday, 27th November 2015, a number of students and teachers from Balbriggan Community College facilitated workshops for pupils in 6th class in St. Molaga’s Senior N.S.
The workshops organised by Ms Buckley and supported by Ms Mannion allowed the 6th class pupils to become aware of the subject choice in post primary and how this can impact on their choice of college courses in the future. The 6th class pupils had opportunities to speak with the second level students about the various subjects and to ask questions about college and their future education.
As part of their work the pupils also researched a second level subject and created a project about their chosen subject. The children have to be commended on the efforts they made and the two winning projects received a special prize.
Parents attended a meeting in the afternoon so that they could also become more College Aware.
We would like to thank Ms Buckley, Ms Mannion and the students from Balbriggan Community college who made this such a successful event.

Senior Choir News
The Drogheda Choir Competition
Yesterday 18/11/15 I went with the choir to the Barbican Theatre in Drogheda. I was with the senior choir. We were competing in 2 competitions. We left the school at 10.00am. We got there at around 10.30. We had to go to the dressing rooms to practise our songs. We practised for 15mins. We were 3rd up for singing. We sang Jim along Josie and Rule the World. We sang really well but unfortunately we didn’t win. We thought we came 2nd place. We sang in a secondary school competition just for the fun. We sang Wade in the Water and Say Something. We were really good but obviously we didn’t win. When we were done we went to the old folks home to sing some songs. We had a fun day.

New School Building News
St. Molaga’s Senior N.S. is listed for the new programme of capital investment in schools. Minister Jan O’Sullivan, announced the new six year building programme on the 17th November which will eliminate the need for any school to use pre-fabs as a long term accommodation solution. We currently have 12 prefab classrooms catering for 14 teachers and 233 pupils which is 52% of our school enrolment.
St. Molaga’s applied for a new building/extension in 1999 and we are delighted to finally be included in this building programme. Hopefully, we will progress to building in 2019 and should be in our new building in 2021, if all goes to plan. The Department of Education and Skills officials will be in contact with us in early 2016 to commence the planning phase for this long awaited project.
