Thank you to all

this possible.

Our school blog which we set up in September is going from strength to strength. Being
shortlisted for the Spider awards was a huge honour. Congratulations to Mr
Falvey and all the teachers and pupils who have worked so hard recording their
classroom work and publishing it on the website. The blog is a great place to
find out what is happening in our school and pupils are getting an opportunity
to share their learning with others all over the world.

We would love to hear your comments about
our work.

We welcome our new Board of Management which will have responsibility for the management of
the school for the next four years.

Thank you  to St. Molaga’s Parents’ Association who
continue to support our work here in school by helping out at school
celebrations, working with the Principal and staff on policy development and
review and by fundraising to ensure that our resources are renewed and kept up
to date. They also organise our successful Book rental scheme which reduces
parents’ school book costs.

St. Molaga’s has 470 pupils enrolled at present. We encourage all parents to ensure that their children are in school each day.  If a child is absent, when the child returns
to school s/he should give/send a written note to the class teacher, which
contains the child’s name, the dates of absence and the reason for the absence.
All absences over 20 days must be notified to the NEWB. We currently have a 96% attendance rate which is very good for the winter months-keep up the good work.
All pupils who have a 100% attendance for this term will receive a certificate
of attendance and a treat. Well done to all of you.

We would like to pass on our best wishes to
Gary in fifth class for a speedy recovery following an accident. We are all
thinking of you and hopefully Santa Claus will be extra good to you!

I hope that this Christmas brings peace and happiness
to all.

Happy Christmas to all our
pupils and parents.

School News November 23rd 2011

We are having a very busy term in St. Molaga’s with lots of events and
celebrations.

Congratulations to our senior choir who were awarded first prize in the
Drogheda Youth Choral Festival for the third year running. Well done to all of
you and a very special thank you to Ms Hegarty for all her work and dedication.
On Friday 18th November we held a Water Action Day which
provided the pupils with the opportunity to explore water, its many uses and
how we can conserve water. Many of the adults that visited learned a lot about
water as the pupils provided visitors and their peers with excellent reports
and descriptions of their work. The display in the hall was very informative
and some classes also took the opportunity to explore the theme of water using
art. Thank you to all the teachers and pupils who participated and to Ms Reilly
and Ms Brennock for organising the event. It was great to see so many parents
who took time out to visit us and see their children’s work.

We have recently started a chess club due to the interest of a number of pupils in the game. When we
announced our intention of starting the club and asked interested pupils to
come to the hall we were astonished at the number of pupils who wanted to take
part. As a result we now have 2 clubs who meet once per week and approximately
80 pupils are involved. We hope that as these pupils learn the game they will
in turn be able to teach other pupils. All of this would not be possible
without the work and support of Mr Falvey, Mr Harrington and Mr Brown.

Our Athletics team had their second outing on Tuesday 22nd to
Swords and once again they had a great day. They really enjoyed participating
in the races with all the other schools and I have been told that they improved
on their times and tactics and above all were very well behaved. Well done to
all of you and thank you to Ms McMahon and Ms Walsh who have worked hard with
the team.
Players from the victorious Dublin team will visit today, Wednesday, 23rd with the Sam Maguire Cup. The Sam
Maguire was here before in 1995, hopefully it will not be so long before we see
it again! Look out for the photographs on the blog.

On Friday 25th
November
we will hold a No-uniform
Day and pupils will be asked to
contribute towards our selected charity this Christmas which is St. Vincent de
Paul. It is important as we approach Christmas that we think of children and
families that may be experiencing difficulties and together we can contribute
something to this local charity.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, 29th and 30th of
November we are holding our Parent-Teacher meetings.  It is important that all parents/guardians
attend as it is an opportunity for parents/guardians and teachers to discuss
their child/children’s progress and how we can best work together.

On Wednesday the school will
close 15 minutes earlier at 2:35pm
. Self-defence will commence at 2:35pm on
this evening.

We look forward to meeting all parents and guardians over the two
evenings.

I wish to thank all involved in the Arts Week which took place before Halloween mid-term break. We had a wonderful week and the pupils had an opportunity to engage in lots of different activities. I am sure you all had fun reading the different blogs from the classes. Have a listen to our wonderful composers from Sixth class.

Mrs Cogan and Ms Hegarty plan each visiting artist and event and have already started work on next years events! Go raibh mile maith agaibh.

Our S.L.D. classes will have a workshop with a visiting feltmaker and will get the opportunity to felt themselves.  The Book Fair will be open to pupils on Monday and Tuesday and parents are welcome to attend on Wednesday morning. This is a great opportunity to purchase early Christmas presents as a book is a great gift.  To encourage pupils reading they will be allowed 15 minutes D.E.A.R. time each day where everyone in the school, will Drop Everything And Read. The teachers are looking forward to that.  The week will end with the ever popular Book Character Dress Up Day on Friday 28th. This day is a very entertaining day for all as pupils and teachers join in the fun. This year the school staff will dress up as fairy-tale characters so watch out! You may meet Red Riding Hood or a wolf or one of the three pigs on your visit to the school. We are asking all pupils to contribute at least €3 towards the cost of the activities for Arts’ Week.

Last year we participated in the Balbriggan Public Realm Project and our projects are currently on exhibition in the Millfield Shopping Centre in Balbriggan.Ms de Faoite’s class participated in the Mathletics during Maths Week. They achieved a place in the top 10 schools in Ireland on Friday 21st October. This is an annual event and in Spring we will be able to enjoy the lovely splash of colour the daffodils and spring flowers bring to our school. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Parents’ Association who sponsor our planting each year.

I would like to remind parents that the Home School Links for Alive-O our religious education programme are available in the Parents Section of the school website. Please take time to read the notes in relation to your child’s class. The links contain poems, prayers and information on the content of the programme in each class.

Our third classes commenced their visits to Balbriggan Library today. They will all have a chance to visit the library over the next week and to become familiar with the services there.

We are looking forward to our Arts week next week and will have more details of all the events and activities posted here on our school blog.

St. Molaga’s N.S. News Blog

We are back at school now over 5 weeks and are busy working and learning in all our classes. Our school blog is very active and keeps us all up to date as to the activities taking place in our classes. The pupils are really enjoying posting their work and comments and I am sure that everyone who logs on to our blog enjoys reading about all the good work as much as I do. Well done to everyone.

This week we have a number of important events taking place in St. Molaga’s N.S. On Tuesday, 11th members of the Leinster Rugby Squad will visit the school with the Heineken Cup. Watch out for the photos of this visit.

On Wednesday, we will hold a Memorial Service for Seamus Brown, our friend and colleague who passed away last year. We will dedicate a garden bench to the memory of Seamus, who worked as caretaker in St. Molaga’s N.S. for a long number of years. May he rest in peace.

On Thursday, Fr. Aloysius will celebrate a school mass for 4th and 6th class pupils and on Friday we will have mass for 3rd and 5th classes. The theme for our mass this year is Friendship: Working and Playing Together. The pupils are busy preparing for these celebrations through revision of prayers and completing art work to decorate the hall.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and pupils to observe the rules of the road when dropping children at the school gates. Pupils must wait for the lollipop lady before crossing the road in the morning and evening. Parents/guardians are asked not to obstruct the gate or stop on or near the school crossing area.

We have completed our recruitment process for new teachers this week and I am delighted to welcome our new teachers to St. Molaga’s N.S. Mr Mark Brown has been appointed as a permanent teacher, Ms Jackie Walsh has been appointed to fifth class for this school year and Ms Niamh Walsh joins us as a part-time resource/learning Support teacher. We look forward to working with these new members of staff and to their contribution to our school.
