Hi Ms Ferguson and all the boys and girls in St Mologa’s.
Thanks so much for being so kind and helping the little hedgehog.
Hedgehogs hibernate for the winter, it is important that they way 600grams before they can hibernate. This little guy only weighs 480grams. He may need a little help to gain some weight so he is going to live with Yvonne from Hedgehog Rescue Dublin, who will give him lots of food and make sure he is strong and healthy, ready to sleep for the winter.
Thanks again for your help.
From Sonya, the nurse at Shenick Vets
(A big thank you to Sonya and her team for all their help and the updates!)
Last week in school we noticed a little Hedgehog wandering around near our classroom. We became concerned because hedgehogs only come out at night as they are nocturnal creatures. We did some research online and found that they might come out during the day because they are sick, looking for somwhere to hibernate or looking for their mother and family.
On Friday afternoon, Ms Ferguson with the help of her class and Ms Hegarty got the Hedgehog into a box (ventilated box) and brought “Harry the Hedgehog” to Shenick Veterinary Clinic in Skerries where he was looked after by Sonya the Vet and her team. Sonya looked after Harry over the weekend, she ran tests, xrayed him and fed him lots.
This morning Sonya the Vet called Ms Ferguson to say he needed to gain more weight before hibernating so Harry will be staying with Yvonne in the Hedgehog Rescue Centre Dublin.
Keep an eye for more Harry the Hedgehog news!
